A chin augmentation refers to improvement of the contour of the chin area. This is usually accomplished by placement of a fitted “implant” directly on the bone of the chin, well below the skin. This procedure is usually done to augment an under projected chin. Chin augmentation can be used to define an underdeveloped chin, or give it more prominence.
The procedure is done as an outpatient procedure and can be done awake or asleep. A small incision is made either below the chin, or inside the mouth.
Patients may expect 5-7 days of swelling in the chin area. Other than a few stitches, no other dressings are required.
As with any cosmetic medical procedure, results vary from patient to patient.
