Liposuction

Liposuction

Losing weight can help you feel better and also improve your overall health. If specific areas remain a problem, liposuction can help. It removes fat deposits to contour your body in places such as thighs, hips, abdomen, waist, upper arms, cheeks, neck, calves and more.

What to Expect

This procedure uses special surgical equipment to suction away excess body fat. There are several types of liposuction, Dr. Suprenant uses tumescent liposuction, which is the most commonly used method for this procedure.

With tumescent liposuction, Dr. Suprenant will inject a medicated solution into the areas where fat is to be removed. The solution helps loosen the fat, reduces pain after surgery, and minimizes bruising and swelling. She will make several small incisions and insert an instrument called a cannula to sweep through the area. This dislodges the fat, which is then removed, along with the medicated solution.

Recovery

After your liposuction procedure, you will wear a compression garment for several weeks. Dr. Suprenant may prescribe medications to help you manage pain and prevent infection. Although you should avoid strenuous activity for about a month, it’s important to walk as soon as possible to help prevent blood clots in your legs.

Most people feel much better a week or two after surgery, and will continue to see improvements in body shape as swelling subsides. Patients can help ensure results are long-lasting with a healthy diet and exercise.

As with any cosmetic medical procedure, results vary from patient to patient.
